Talcum is widely used in cosmetics. Products like baby powders, adult powders and facial powders whereas talcum powders are also ill-famed due to connections with cancer. Researchers found a link between baby powder and ovarian cancer as talcum contains substances such as asbestos which can cause cancer.

But since 1970 all talcum powders products used in United States Of America are asbestos free.

Does talcum really cause cancer?

While talking about whether the talcum is linked with ovarian cancer or not it’s important to distinguish between the talc whether it is asbestos free or does it contain asbestos cancer causing composites.

The tail which contains asbestos can be included in the list of cancer causing talks. The Even Federal government has passed certain laws knows as talcum powder lawsuits according to which the person can use the talc production companies if his body is showing symptoms of any health issues due to talcum.

The talc that has traces of asbestos can even cause cancer if it’s inhaled. These type of talc’s are not used nowadays. Researchers are working out to find other causes of cancer by using two main type of studies which are:-

  • Practical studies

Lab studies– These studies are done in labs which include testing of different substances at the high dose in animals to see what type of health issues it can cause. Even substances are directly added to normal cells to see if they cause any type of change in the cell similar to cancer cells.

Practical studies– Practical study in people is a study which helps to record rate of cancer in different groups of people. These studies help to compare cancer rate in the people who are exposed to the particular substance and the group of people who are not.
